Overflowing Love in a Hurting World

It took me a long time to truly understand this: we don’t transform the world through force or struggle. We transform it by letting what we love overflow from our hearts.

And even now, it’s a serious practice to stay in this frame of mind—especially when it feels like this perspective is constantly under attack by current events, circumstances, and everything happening in the world.
The truth is, the world has always been a hard place to live. Depending on where and when you’ve existed, life has always held its share of pain, grief, and struggle.
But what’s different now is that our nervous systems are being asked to carry the weight of all the world’s hardships—all at the same time, all the time.
We weren’t built for this.
In the past, we might have been aware of the hardships in our village, our family, or even our region. But now, we’re exposed to a constant stream of suffering from every corner of the globe. Every tragedy, every injustice, every crisis flashes before our eyes in real time. And while we may not physically be there, our brains and bodies process it as if we are. It leaves us overwhelmed, exhausted, and disconnected from the very things that give life meaning.
The Practice of Overflow
This is why staying grounded in love—acting from a place of overflow instead of struggle—isn’t just a nice idea. It’s a practice, a discipline. It’s a daily choice to remember that while we can’t carry the weight of the whole world, we can still transform the small, sacred spaces and relationships we touch.
When I find myself pushing too hard or running on empty, I pause and ask: Am I forcing right now, or am I overflowing? Often, just asking the question helps me realign.
I’ve also learned to notice what helps me refill my cup: What makes me feel peaceful? What brings me back to center? The more I spend time with those things — whether it’s sitting with the horses at sunrise or walking the trail — the more I find myself able to pour out what I love rather than what I fear.
Change doesn’t come from effort or force—it comes from alignment. When we align with what lights us up, what brings us peace, and what we love, it spills out of us naturally. And that’s where transformation begins—first within us, and then in the world around us.
🌳 How Nature Helps Us Realign
When the weight of the world feels too heavy, nature reminds us how to breathe again. Stepping onto the land, leaving our phones behind, and letting our senses guide us is one of the fastest ways to calm the nervous system and reconnect to what matters.
Take a slow walk, feel the ground beneath your feet, and notice what draws your attention — the way light filters through the trees, the sound of the wind, or even a single wildflower. These simple moments remind us we are alive, we are held, and we are part of something much bigger than the news cycle.
If you’ve been feeling the weight of it all, I invite you to come experience the stillness of Rock Creek ReTreet Center, our 12-acre Nebraska retreat center located between Lincoln and Omaha. Walk the sacred trail, sit by the creek, watch the sunrise with the horses, and let your heart be reminded of the beauty that still exists in the world. Because despite what the news says, there's still a lot of good in the world.
📅 Schedule a tour of the grounds and discover how this sacred outdoor space can help you reconnect, realign, and begin pouring from a place of overflow again.
