Living in Harmony with Nature

So often we talk about nature as if it’s something “out there” — separate from us. But the truth is, we are nature. Our breath mirrors the rhythm of the trees. Our bodies move in cycles, just like the seasons. The same earth that holds the roots of the cottonwood also holds us

When we begin to live as if this is true, harmony becomes less of a goal and more of a way of being.

We Are Nature

When we stand beneath the sky, sit by a creek, or feel the wind on our skin, we’re not just connecting to nature — we’re reconnecting with ourselves. The cycles we see in the land — birth, growth, harvest, rest — are the same rhythms within our own lives. Spring calls us into beginnings, into planting seeds of new ideas and hope. Summer expands us into our fullest energy, inviting us to shine. Fall whispers that it is time to release what no longer serves, to make room for gratitude and letting go. And winter draws us inward to the sacred pause, a season of rest and stillness, where the soil of our souls can be prepared for what’s next.

When we live in tune with these rhythms, we stop pushing against the flow of life and instead find ourselves carried by it.

Harmony as a Practice

Living in harmony with nature doesn’t always mean dramatic change. Sometimes it’s as simple as stepping outside each day and allowing yourself to notice what’s around you. It’s choosing to sit quietly without your phone, feeling the earth under your feet. It’s paying attention to the seasons and asking what they might be teaching you. It’s planting something and tending to it, not as a chore but as an act of gratitude for the land that sustains us. It’s walking slowly, as if you’re seeing everything for the first time, and letting wonder rise up again in your heart.

These small acts remind us that harmony isn’t about doing more. It’s about remembering who we are.

An Invitation

At Rock Creek ReTreet Center, located between Lincoln and Omaha, we see every day how the land itself invites us back into balance. The cottonwood tree stands rooted and strong. The sacred trail shifts with the seasons, offering new lessons with each step. The wide Nebraska sky reminds us that we are both small and deeply connected to something greater.

If you’ve been longing to live more in tune with yourself — and with the world around you — we invite you to come experience this harmony for yourself.

📅 Schedule a tour of the grounds and discover how Rock Creek can be a sanctuary for remembering that you are nature, and that harmony is already within you.
